Expand the National Anti-Corruption Commission to shield public servants and ordinary Australians exposing misconduct, with anonymous hotlines and funded legal aid.
- Government currently has uncapped financial capacity to vexatiously litigate against individuals to cover up bad decision making, corrupt actions and misfeasance. An independent, public oversight body will review all government legal action against individuals that exceeds $10,000 in legal expense.
- Reduce the ‘criminal’ threshold for corruption commissions and expand investigations to include a civil test – “on the balance of probabilities.” Public servants must be held to a higher standard than the people they serve.
- Funded legal aid for genuine whistleblowers, determined by the same public oversight body.
